As many as 200 Haitians caught crossing border daily: Army Intel
Santo Domingo.- Army Intelligence director Carlos Aguirre affirmed Wednesday that the 42 border checkpoints halt as many as 200 Haitians who try to enter Dominican territory illegal each day.
He said the undocumented immigrants try to reach “economically active cities” such as Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata.
Aguirre also revealed that as many as 12 guns are seized at the checkpoints each month. “Weapons are an easy device to hide inside a vehicle. We’re instructing our staff to be aware of which are the places to most easily hide them.”
Security cameras monitored from Santo Domingo have been installed along the border’s 42 checkpoints.
