78% of bank assets in 3 Dominican banks
A total of 78% of the country’s banking assets are concentrated in just three Dominican banks. In a recent report, Fitch Ratings states that the Dominican banking system is “highly concentrated.” The three banks are the governmental Banco de Reservas, the Banco Popular Dominicano and Banco BHD Leon, which is in the final stages of a merger between the former BHD and Leon banks.
