1.6 million Dominicans undernourished
Santo Domingo.- UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) deputy representative Hector Matas on Thursday said 1.6 million people suffer from undernourishment in the Dominican Republic, or 15.6% of its population.
He said Elías Piña, Bahoruco and El Seibo provinces are the most affected populations.
Speaking at a press conference after meeting with the Special Chamber of Deputies Commission Against Hunger, the UN official announced a national drawing contest with several postage stamps illustrating the “Right to food” to last until June 6.
The FAO called for the participation of youngsters and adolescents in the country, Dominican residing abroad and foreigners living in Dominican Republic for more than three years.
