Work starts on key beltway bridge, missing link with the east
Santo Domingo.- Tourists and Dominicans will soon enjoy a pleasant, quick and safe drive from the various international airports to their final destination in the country’s east region, Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo affirmed Sunday.
The official said the Eastern Corridor’s first phase will open in late November, and includes three traffic exchange; one on the San Pedro-La Romana highway, the second at the La Romana Beltway, and a third at the Hato Mayo-San Pedro road .
Castillo spoke after hitting the switch to start installing the beams for the 170 meter-long, four-lane bridge over Rio Dulce, La Romana, whose five sections were designed to withstand extreme loads.
The Corridor also include two bridges on the Bavaro-Miches span and several others for the Tourism Boulevard of the East, Castillo said, adding that the project will contribute to spur the economy, since tourists staying in the east without needing to go through La Romana, can also visit Santo Domingo, “which is one of Latin America’s most important and prettiest.”
