Vatican agreement ‘no longer relevant’
The Movimiento La Multitud has said that the agreement or Concordat that Trujillo signed with the Vatican is a relic of the past that grants privileges to the Catholic Church that are no longer appropriate in today’s society.
In a press release, the movement’s spokesman, Franiel Genao, said that the country should respect all faiths but that religion should be a personal choice and not an imposition by the State.
He went on to invite the public to protest outside the Apostolic Nunciature in Santo Domingo on Wednesday 11 September at 5pm to ask for justice in the recent cases of sexual abuse by priests, including the former papal nuncio in the country.
