USAID funds tourist projects highlight Montecristi’s history

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Tourism Competitiveness Consortium and the Montecristi Tourism Cluster on Sunday cut the ribbon on the Salt Interpretation Route and the city’s Historic Houses Center.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) provided financial support for the projects, carried out with the Consortium’s Sustainable Tourism Empowerment Program, being conducted in 10 tourism destinations nationwide.

The Salt Interpretation Route is the first and only one of its kind in the country, and features centuries-old wooden structures to store salt,.

It also provides a contact with the town’s culture and idiosyncrasy, as a tool to recover, promote and protect the area’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.
