US$354M dam in Southwest advances at a US$7.5M pace
BARAHONA, Dominican Republic. – The head of the Dams and Canals Agency (INDRHI) affirmed Wednesday that the dam at Monte Grande, now under construction, will be finished during president Danilo Medina’s Administration.
Olgo Fernandez said the government allocated US$7.5 million in this year’s budget for the dam, which will cost US$354 million.
Fernandez, in a meeting with officials from Barahona and Baoruco and other southern provinces, said the dam will benefit the region with irrigation of more than 40,000 hectares.
He said a US$270.0 million loan is pending for the hydraulic complex which includes an aqueduct, to supply the area for the next 30 years.
