U.S. National Bar Association cancels conference in DR
Santo Domingo.– The National Bar Association of the United States announced the cancellation of the Dominican Republic as its location for its annual conference, to be held in March 2014.
The decision was taken as a sign of protest against the recent Constitutional Court ruling that outlines the conditions for citizenship in the Dominican Republic
“On behalf of the National Bar Association, we strongly condemn the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Dominican Republic, which has retroactively rescinded the citizenship of persons of Haitian lineage born in the Dominican Republic,” the association president, Patricia Rosier, stated.
According to Rosier, the National Bar cannot remain silent and “we urge the immediate review and reversal of this ruling. As a result, the National Bar Association Small Firms/Solo Practitioners Division is cancelling its previously scheduled March 2014 Conference in the Dominican Republic.”
The National Bar Association (NBA) is the the oldest association which includes the greatest lawyers and judges African Americans in United States.
