U.S. company wants Dominican capital’s trash

Santo Domingo.- U.S. based company Westinghouse Plasma Corporation said it’s willing to invest the funds needed to manage the landfill at Duquesa and other similar sites nationwide.

As an alternative to solve the recurrent solid waste disposal problems, the international firm proposes the installation of a gasification machine G-65, at a cost of US$180 million per unit, which it affirms would generate the natural gas the country needs for local consumption for vehicles and combined cycle power plants, and even for export.

Westinghouse representative Oscar Oviedo said the high-tech machines can also produce much of the electricity the country needs. “In Duquesa’s case, the gasifiers we would install consist of a closed receiver, with no pollution emission and compresses the waste at a temperature of 2,800 degrees, converting it mostly into natural gas.”

Quoted by, Oviedo said their technology has already been installed in England, Japan, India, China and Florida.
