The Puerto Plata province has an increase of crime

PUERTO PLATA – . Lately the criminal acts that leave people injured or killed in most cases continue to rise in the Dominican Republic .
The province of Puerto Plata is not immune to the increase of this scourge that keeps terrorizing the population because criminals no matter where or when heavily armed assault anyone to strip them of  belongings.
Last week it was reported that an unknown person assaulted three foreign tourists when walking the streets of this city, while yesterday afternoon two criminals on board of a motorcycle at a gunpoint robbed a messenger of a bank when he was heading to a bank branch to make a transaction.
Similarly, the young lawyer Johanny Rodriguez commented on his Facebook page that ” I had a bad day, … a thief penetrated into my house at 4:30 am leaving me no communication and without documentation, because my phone and wallet was stolen . “
Most citizens of Puerto Plata assured that thieves are on the loose stalking the precise moment to snatch your belongings, while authorities look timid and just have to ask God’s protection.
It is noted that among the victims of crime is a  popular Merengue singer Wilman Peña, whom unknown criminals at a gunpoint broke the glass of his vehicle, took all their belongings in the Los Llanos de Gurabo in Santiago and luckily they left the singer live.

P.S. Be aware that at night time (late evening) a suspicious group of men on a 4WD vehicle can try to stop you on the highway Sosua – Cabarete, acting like their vehicle has broken down and they need help. Do not fall for this! It’s a trick! They are “ladrones” (criminals), who, if you stop, can strip you for your valuables, or even your vehicle. X-Mas is coming, so be on alert, and do not act naively, especially during night time!

It would be nice to hear if the police actually solve any crimes. My personal experience is not.

As they say the thieves are doing their Christmas shopping.
