The Procurator denied that 4 foreigners arrested in Sosua last week had links to human trafficking
PUERTO PLATA. – The Procurator Fiscal holder of this jurisdiction, denied that four foreign nationals who were arrested in Sosua last week, were to integrate a network of trafficking as reported by the National Investigations Department (DNI). The judge said Pichardo Alba Nunez a Canadian and four Srilanquenses after being detained were questioned by the prosecution, and found no elements which linked them to human trafficking, or to terrorist network as said, so they were sent to Santo Domingo to Migration Office who would proceed to deport them out of the country, as the only crime was found on them was entering the country illegally.
Foreigners arrested at a residence in the Sosua-Cabarete road, where they were identified as Canadian Karunanithy Nallathamby, who lived in an apartment studio in Puerto Plata, in addition to the Sri Lankan Kanthaany Siresh and / or Sriram Kannan, Mahenderan Ganesh and / or David Kristen and Kohulan Selvarasa. They recently entered Dominican territory via the border with Haiti and according to the information provided by the National Investigations Department (DNI), formed a network of illegal persons which were sent to the United States. According to the Chief Operating Officer of ID; Fidel Paulino Calcagno, these four foreigners allegedly used the country to send to the United States, Europe and Middle East with fake passports of Canada which were led by them to Nallathamby for eight months with possible links to terrorist cells.
