The government recovers RD$3.1B in dormant accounts
Santo Domingo. – Government agencies that previously had as many as 40 accounts to manage their finances will be allowed only have four, as the National Treasury’s Single Account provision takes effect, National Treasurer Alberto Perdomo announced Tuesday.
Speaking in the National Palace, the official said since the provision took effect, 2,420 bank accounts of non-financial agencies have been closed, while 3,000 others are still pending.
Perdomo said RD$3.1 billion have been recovered from dormant accounts and financial certificates deposited in state-owned and private banks.
He said the Single Account program seeks to centralize government revenues, noting that the plan’s second phase begins in January,
The Treasurer added that the system seeks to manage funds of the government budget and foreign grants, to make the use of taxpayers money more transparent.
