The government has disbursed RD$216 million to several national agro producers
Santo Domingo.- The government has disbursed RD$216 million to several national producers of the RD$692 million pledged by president Danilo Medina during his surprise visits on weekends to towns nationwide.
Special Agricultural Development Fund (FEDA) director Antonio López on Monday said of the 61 current agro projects, 43 are in operating and 18 will start next week.
He said the organizations which have received their first payment and have paid back their loans immediately are given second on. “ it all depends on the speed with which each entity fulfills its commitment to get a second disbursement.”
He said the FEDA provides financing to small farmers with 5% annual interest loans, disbursed through cooperatives and producer associations.
Speaking in the Presidency’s “Weekly Meeting with the Media,” the official added that his agency finances small and medium greenhouse producers, whose products are guaranteed access to international markets.
