The government eyes additional US$70.0M in road tolls yearly
Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry and the road construction contractor DOVICON on Thursday agreed to terminate the Duarte and 6 de Noviembre highway toll concession contract.
Minister Gonzalo Castillo said the “amicable” agreement safeguards the country’s interests because he’s “convinced” it will result in higher revenue when the government resumes the toll collection. “This includes all citizens, whether they use the highway or not. So it’s definitely excellent news”
He said toll revenues and savings from no longer having to pay the contractor will be allocated entirely for the wellbeing of Dominicans. “Specifically, we estimate that this operation results in the release of 70 million dollars per year, which will now be invested in our people.”
