The City of Santo Domingo recommended as a cultural destination for tourists

Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic, has been selected as one of the top ten cities in the Caribbean recommended for cultural tourism.  The city’s Colonial Section has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The online daily Caribbean Journal notes that “Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, lives and breathes culture.”

The daily notes that the city, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Caribbean, has accumulated through the centuries a rich historical and artistic heritage.

The city of Santo Domingo has nine museums: the National Museum of History and Geography, the Museum of the Dominican Man, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of the “Casas Reales,” the Museum of the “Casa del Tostado,” the Columbus Lighthouse Museum, and the Museum “Alcazar de Colon,” the original home of Diego Columbus, Christopher’s brother.

Santo Domingo, the First City of the Americas, is also home to at least 20 top-rated art galleries.  The Ministry of Culture also organizes frequent music festivals featuring national and international artists.
