Sportswear giant Gildan adds 800 jobs with new plant
Santo Domingo.- Garment maker Gildan on Tuesday launched its new plant’s operations at Las Americas Industrial Free Zone Park, where it will produce top quality sportswear, adding to the country’s second-floor manufacturing capability.
It said the new project adds 800 new employees to Gildan’s Dominican Republic family, which recently announced more investments in the country.
It said the new manufacturing facility, true to Gildan’s corporate philosophy of social responsibility, created jobs for especially-challenged people, promoting the creation of opportunities to impact and improve Dominicans’ standard of living.
“The opening of the new plant will be accompanied by the expansion of its programs for employees and the communities in health, education, care for the environment and improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the areas close to new operations,” the company said in a statement handed out to reporters.
Gildan’s two plants at La Americas currently provide more than 2,200 jobs while the new facility’s inaugural confirms its commitment and satisfaction with the Dominicans’ quality workmanship.
