Small business is 97% of all companies in DR

Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Ignacio Mendez, in charge of the Medina administration’s small business program, says that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) represent 97% of all companies in the country. Together they represent 2.1 million jobs. Mendez said that the sector is growing. A Fondomicro study carried out in 2007 found that there were 616,215 MSMEs and this had increased to 650,000 in 2009.

Mendez was speaking about the present and future of the sector in a talk at the Centro Leon sponsored by the Santiago Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Wednesday 18 September.
