Sex workers get a new life with government loans
Santo Domingo.- The government’s Solidarity Bank (BS) on Wednesday launched a soft loans program to improve women sex workers’ standard of living, fulfill their dream of becoming microbusiness leaders and opt for other more dignified trades.
BS director Maira Jimenez announced the program during ribbon cutting for a new office in the city of San Cristobal, where dozens of sex workers have received loans, financial orientation and education.
Among the beneficiaries figure beauty salons, bakeries, candy shops and yogurt production.
The BS started the program together with a movement by former sex workers grouped in Modemu, based in San Cristobal.
