Semana Santa in the grip of the bad weather
On Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Saturday, but also on Sunday, it rained very regularly.
A heavy pack of clouds gave the sun no chance to do its good radiant work. Although the hotels had an almost 100% occupancy you saw, due to the bad weather, few people on the streets. It is customary for every Dominican to go the beach or a river during Semana Santa with the entire family and friends to spend the holy days with an adequate amount of food and drink. In previous years, the beach of Sosúa was packed on Friday and Saturday with visitors from Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Vega, Montellano etc. Now it was exceptionally quiet all day at the beach on Friday
The entrepreneurs on the beach were desperate because they had large amounts of drinks and food in stock. Especially the fried fishmongers feared a catastrophe. But Saturday the weather was better. Despite the small rain showers and the gray sky, thousands of visitors went to the beach to enjoy themselves and to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, fried fish and rum. The owners of the restaurants and bars were relieved. It remains strange that on both Friday and Saturday at the beach no music was allowed to be played.
A bit boring, especially for Dominicans who really like music and dance.
