Sectors hail the construction of the Santo Domingo Beltway
Santo Domingo.- The National District City Council and the National Hotels and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) hailed the announced construction of the Santo Domingo Beltway, citing decongested traffic, less smog and easier access between regions.
City Council Traffic director Angel Segura called the road, whose announced cost will be US$295 million, a big step forward and would adhere to official studies made to regulate heavy traffic on Santo Domingo’s streets thus far.
He said the project will not only help manage the capital’s traffic, but also reduce pollution since the trucks plying the routes between major ports won’t resort to using downtown thoroughfares. “We view with favor the government’s decision to build a Beltway Avenue, it’s a big step forward.”
ASONAHORES vice president Arturo Villanueva congratulated the government for the initiative he affirms will help promote domestic tourism with easier driving between the North, South and East.
He said a tourist lodged in Punta Cana could drive to Santo Domingo or turn northward easily, saving time and cost without negative impact on Greater Santo Domingo, a “megalopolis” he affirms needs alternate routes to ease traffic, and avoid chaos and unnecessary dangers.
