Santo Domingo: an important destination for popular international artists
When visiting Santo Domingo, the first Capital of the Americas, make sure you find a listing of the upcoming concerts.
It is possible that your visit could coincide with the concert of a major international artist in the country. During 2012, for example, “salsa” singer Marc Anthony, world-famous pop singer Julio Iglesias, the Spaniard Diego “El Cigala”, Dominican pop star Juan Luis Guerra, the Spanish singers Victor Manuel and Ana Belén, the famed Cirque du Soleil, Dominican-American jazz pianist Michael Camilo, and pop icon Britney Spears, all brought their concert tours to the Dominican Republic.
International artists such as Beyoncé, Italian Laura Pausini, Dominican Juan Luis Guerra and the Cirque du Soleil delighted fans with their particular shows in the city’s sports venues.
At the “Teatro La Fiesta,” the main ballroom at the Jaragua Hotel in downtown Santo Domingo, singer Pitbull, Richard Bona (from Cameroon), and Mexico’s leading pop star Cristian Castro, presented their particular brand of music to thousands of avid followers.
The “Altos de Chavon” Amphitheater, in La Romana, is another important musical venue.
The amphitheater was inaugurated in the seventies, and international music icons such as Frank Sinatra have performed there.
Visiting Artists In 2013
National and international visitors will enjoy the concert tours of Spaniard Paco de Lucia, the Chilean singer Miriam Hernandez and Shalee, the daughter of famed Spanish singer Paloma San Basilio.
