Santo Domingo’s International Airport Receives Quality Award

The Airports Council International recently issued a special award to the Las Americas International Airport (AILA), in Santo Domingo.

The Airport Service Quality Award 2012 recognized the improvements made to the terminal last year. Las Americas is the country’s second most important terminal. Last year some 1.5 million passengers traveled through this terminal.

This figure represents 30% of the five million travelers that arrived in the country through its seven national airports.

Of these, 826,000 were foreign tourists, representing 21% of the 3.9 million arrivals/departures that were registered through the country’s airports.

The terminal was recognized for its high customer service standards, specifically in the “Improvements implemented” category in Latin America-Caribbean region. The awards ceremony will be held during the annual World Congress and Exhibition / ACI Europe 2013, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from June 10-12 of this year.

The ASQ awards are issued in the following categories: Best Airport in the Region, Best Airport by Number of Passengers, Best Airport by Size and Best Airport for Improvements implemented.

The Airports Council International represents airport management companies throughout the world.

It has 573 members operating 1,751 airports in 174 countries and territories.
