Samana-Santo Domingo highway toll is hurting tourism: Cluster
Santo Domingo.- A leading group of travel agencies and tourism companies in Samana on Wednesday proposed a revision of the toll motorists are charged to use the Samana-Santo Domingo highway and the Atlantic Tourist Boulevard, arguing that the current fees penalize and delay the province’s tourism development.
The Samana Tourism Cluster said it supports Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo’s initiative aimed at renegotiating the government’s contract with the companies that manage the toll plazas.
The Cluster affirms that the measure would encourage more tourists to visit the North Coast. “Access roads to a destination are an important asset for tourism growth, but in Samana’s case we see how the tolls and steady increases limit visits to the province.”
On several occasions the Cluster and Samana’s hoteliers and tourism companies have asked the authorities and the company that operates both roads the possibility of at least a dialogue, to find solutions that support tourism development for the benefit of all,” the association said in a document.
