Salary 13 begins to circulate today
SD. The Minister of Hacienda, Simon Lizardo, reported that from today, Thursday, they would initiate the disbursement of the Christmas bonus for state employees, beginning with the civilian pensioners and the military, and in the afternoon they would deposit money for all of the public servants.
The Minister of Hacienda reported that “tomorrow, Friday, all of the public employees will have in their regular accounts, properly deposited, the funds corresponding to the salary number thirteen.”
Lizardo reported that the amount is estimated to be some RD$9.5 billion and he cited among the expectations of the economic movement due to this event are such things as the “Black Friday” last week in which businesses held big sales with many articles under their original prices.
Although the Labor Code establishes that the payment of the Christmas Salary should be done by 20 December at the latest, it is the custom of the government and many businesses in the private sector to begin the payment of their employees in the first or second week of the month.
The president of the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC), Ernesto Martinez, appeared hopeful that with the disbursement of the Christmas bonus, as well as the other payments that the government will carry out this month, which add up to some RD$50 billion, that commerce can take a better course and end 2013 with more promising numbers than those produced at the beginning of the year.
