Race track reopens after 6 months of no betting
Santo Domingo.- After six months and 12 days since closing its gates, the V Centenario horse racking track reopens Thursday, and a sigh of relief from the hardship for the thousands of families who had lost their livelihood.
The news is welcomed by thoroughbred owners, trainers, grooms, agents, cashiers, veterinarians and other employees, the government which had lost revenue through the National Riding Commission and the management company, and even by several dozen malnourished horses.
The track, which was on the brink of collapse as recently as a few weeks ago, said those six months without racing on lack of income forced many owners to abandon their horses at the site.
