Public hospitals will no longer charge fees
Santo Domingo.- Patients who visit the various public hospitals won’t have to pay the fees for services starting today, after the Public Health Ministry decided to definitively discontinue them.
Patients paid from 100 to 200 pesos for basic consultation, 100 pesos or more for lab tests, and as much as 8,000 pesos for minor surgeries and 3,000 for a tomography, according to Dominican Medical Association president Amarilis Herrera, who called the initiative a great victory.
Public Health will cover the funds which the hospitals will no longer received, with RD$600 million per year distributed to various hospitals through advance funding, said Health minister Freddy Hidalgo.
