Public Health still mum on tainted salami, 2 months after scandal

Santo Domingo.- Despite the Public Health Ministry has yet to disclose analyzes on processed meats including salami, despite having the results more than two months ago.

The analyzes ordered and disclosed by the Consumer Protection  Agency found serious deficiencies in the quality in most of the sausages, with protein contents far below international standards.

And though the Agency’s study ran the alarm that led to plunging salami sales which the pollster Newlink Research placed at 51%, thus far Public Health has yet to name the local company that would conduct the industry wide analysis.

A source quoted by said after the second study, at least one company could be shuttered.

The Agency’s study revealed that in addition to the low protein content, 15% of the salami samples contained fecal coliform, a serious health risk.
