Two farmers killed by mistake in search of 4 fugitives escaped from Puerto Plata prison
PUERTO PLATA. – A shootout staged in the rural community of Barabbas in the Imbert township by a group of agents from Surveillance and Treatment of Prisoners ( VTP ) and National Police, which left two farmers dead, while pursuing four inmates who escaped yesterday afternoon from Correction and Rehabilitation Center San Felipe de Puerto Plata.
The two farmers were shot dead allegedly to be confused with the escaped inmates. According to reports, they were shot by the prison officers who found them working in sugarcane fields near Barrabas in the municipality of Imbert. The victims have been named as Ambiorix Vargas, a.k.a. Al Capone, and Emilio Pascual Jaquez. The agents initially said it had been a terrible mistake, but investigators subsequently stated that the two men had been involved in the inmates’ escape plan.
The version offered no credible media by the authorities of Correction and Rehabilitation Center San Felipe, indicating that an individual armed with a gun took the guard by assault, he was serving at the port of entry to this prison.
Officially it became known that the escaped prisoners are dangerous criminals who were identified as Francisco Antonio Colon, sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder and Leonardo Quiroz Díaz , who had thumb another sentence of 20 years for murder . While Max Piter to 20 years for aggravated robbery and Nathanael Basilio Cruz to five years for violating the law 50-88 on drugs.
The authorities ordered that the bodies of Ambiorix Vargas (Al Capone ) and Emilio Pascual Jaquez get taken to the National Forensic Science Institute ( INACIF ) in Santiago to perform a necropsy.
