Performance by Fefita la Grande at City Lights
Saturday March 16 the famous Merengue Típico accordionist ‘Fefita La Grande’ performed in the newly opened bar / disco ‘City Lights’ in the street Pedro Clisante. The band led by this exceptional artist did a swinging show on stage. Although the entrance fee of 250 pesos was not that much, the audience was not that big as expected.
This born artist deserved more attention. But the manager of City Lights was not unhappy, because, he said the bar / nightclub is not yet known to the public. He wants at least every month a famous music band to perform in the bar / nightclub. For the next time this will be the merengue band ‘La Banda Real’.
But with the performance of Fefita la Grande (Manuela Josefa Cabrera, born 18 September 1944) also known as ‘La Vieja Fefa’ or better as ‘La Mayimba’, the manager has made a good choice. Fefita is also one of the most famous representatives of the Perico Ripiao or Merengue Típico music genre, along with artists like Tatico Henríquez, El Ciego de Nagua, El Prodigio, Rafaelito Román, Geovanny Polanco, Francisco Ulloa, and others.
