Pensions for retired teachers increased
SANTO DOMINGO. The Minister of Education, Carlos Amarante Baret, announced yesterday that 8,959 retired teachers will receive an increase in the amount of their pension, when he took part in an activity in the Presidential Palace which was headed by President Danilo Medina.
He explained that the beneficiaries are retired teachers that receive less than RD$15,000 a month and that the government is interested in improving their quality of life.
He said that in spite of the fact that the authorities have made efforts to improve the conditions of life of the teachers, “we are still dragging a situation that President Medina decided to give attention.”
The act will be today at 11:00 a.m. in the Caryatides Hall of the Presidential Palace, and some 700 representatives from 18 regions and the National District have been invited.
Amarante Baret said he felt that increasing the amount of the pensions that the retired teachers receive is an act of justice to the education sector.
The official said that the idea of giving the increase was from President Medina himself, after thinking that the pensions that those educators receive was not sufficient to cover their basic necessities.
He indicated that the chief executive, upon learning about the reality of the different sectors during his visits throughout the country, has been motivated to improve the living conditions of sectors such as education. He reiterated that today, Tuesday, they will be giving the good news to the national teaching sector.
