Officials probe why Arabs get adopted to get Dominican IDs
Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) is looking into the birth certificates of several foreigners of Arab origin, who were adopted by Dominicans and are seeking Dominican IDs and nationality.
A report submitted to JCE president Roberto Rosario by the ID Dept. notes that a considerable number of foreigners has been periodically submitting requests to approve the adoptions of adults by a Dominican.
The report says the authorizations would lead to request the documents from the Civil Registrar’s and with them, demand an ID card (cedula).
In the report the investigators note that the legalized adoption of an adult isn’t a legal base to obtain the Dominican nationality.
