Official announces start of by-pass around the capital with US$95.0M
Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Monday announced the start of construction of a truck by-pass from Haina in the east to Boca Chica in the west, whose first phase will cost US$95.0 million.
Speaking in the National Palace, the official said the 95 million dollars will pay for the span from Bajos de Haina to the Duarte highway.
The announcement comes just weeks after the National District City Council banned heavy traffic along the seaside avenue Malecon, where tractor trailers were ruining its appeal to tourists.
Castillo said the by-pass and other planned projects will create around 3,000 direct jobs.
