No more tickets, Subway commuters will have to buy ‘e-card’

Santo Domingo.-  The Transport Reform Office (Opret) will no longer sell the passes for riders on Santo Domingo’s Metro (subway), for which commuters will have to buy or recharge the e-card, Assistant director Leonel Carrasco said Thursday

He said commuters waste time buying tickets and their sales hinder the Metro’s administrative operations.

The official said Opret bought two million cards, available for the Metro’s users, and urged them to buy or recharge the electronic plastic, at 200 pesos for 10 passes, with one free fare, among other discounts. “The Opret will no longer sell tickets and people must acquire the electronic card to ride the train.”

He added that the measure seeks to save economic resources, streamlining and more organization than exists in the Metro.
