New national budget submitted
President Danilo Medina has decided to increase the budget prepared by his economic team for 2014, which had been sent to the National Congress.
Now the bill referred to as the supplementary budget modifies the original budget. It was sent to the Senate yesterday, Tuesday 5 November.
The supplementary budget is for the sum of RD$13,770,187,723, which will be funded by the income that the state has received from the addendum on the Barrick (Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation) mining contract.
In a letter accompanying the new budget, President Medina explains that the extra income will be used to stimulate the economy and to assign resources to priority investment projects.
This budget contains salary increases for the health and agriculture sector as well as the military and police and RD$500 million for the Monte Grande dam.
