Murderer of Canadian to be set free
The mother of Barrie teen Jordan Morrison, who was killed in the Dominican Republic, says the man accused of killing him will be out of jail much sooner.
Carrie McGinnis tells CTV News that Dmytro Aref Yev, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing Jordan Morrison, will only have to spend three years behind bars.
And she says most of that time has already been served. Morrison was killed during a family trip to the Dominican Republic in 2011. He was 19. The family has since been travelling back and forth to the Dominican Republic for three years for trials and the appeal process. McGinnis and Morrison’s father Dale Morrison were in the country for this latest decision.
Five people were accused of killing Morrison. Three people were acquitted and Yev, a Montreal resident, was the only person sentenced to jail time. Bouzid Redha was not convicted.
