More highway tolls on the horizon
Santo Domingo.- Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo says that the government plans to install six new toll points on the same number of highways where there are alternative routes so that users can have two options for their trips.
He said that that fees for these tolls would depend on the construction of the roads concerned and the number of kilometers.
The new tollbooths would be installed on the bypasses at La Romana, Azua, the North of Santiago and the first stretch of Santo Domingo – Haina – Duarte and the bypass on the second stretch of Duarte – Boca Chica.
Castillo was attending the Senate tax commission, chaired by Tommy Galán, prior to the approval in one single reading of the contract with the Reservas Fiduciary Society, which allows the funds charged at the tolls to go to the Banco de Reservas.
According to the contract, the proposal means that the resources from the tolls will be managed with greater transparency and will be used for road maintenance and construction of new road projects.
