Modern facilities for the general public in Playa Grande
Playa Grande, one of the most popular and beautiful beaches of the Dominican Republic’s north coast, now features excellent facilities for the use of the general public.
The new infrastructure, valued at US$2.5 million, occupies 37,000 square meters. Two USbased private companies came together and built a plaza with food and refreshment stands,
public baths and locker rooms, and a secure parking area. A road was built to connect travelers coming in from the main road to the beach. The two companies, the Playa Grande Holdings and the North Shore Land Holdings, are the developers of this important tourism project.
The beach is known for its impressive lush tropical vegetation, and the facilities were built near the beach area. This is an added plus for the national and international visitor. There is also an arts & crafts shop, a surf hut, a bar and two roofed gazebos. There is running water, a sewage system and electricity.
The project is situated in the country’s north coast and has been designed as a low density sustainable development complex, bringing together the interests of the private sector with the community.
Future projects include the construction of a luxury boutique hotel, by the Aman company, a second boutique hotel, residential lots, modern service facilities and a beautiful golf course. Located near the town of “Rio San Juan,” the region is known for its abundant fishing possibilities and pristine beaches such as “Playa Caleton,” “Playa Grande,” – world-famous for its giant waves – and “Playa Preciosa.” The project is situated one hour from Puerto Plata’s international airport.
