Metzgete and Live Music in Parade Típica El Choco
It has been a tradition for centuries to slaughter pigs in November in Switzerland and southern Germany. The story goes that there are two reasons for the slaughter. The farmers would not have enough food for their livestock in winter and therefore slaughtering the pigs in the autumn was a solution.
The other reason was that the farmers, during the invasion of Napoleon’s troops in 1800, were ordered to slaughter their livestock. Otherwise the cattle would fall into the hands of the French. Anyway, whatever is the real reason for this tradition, today it is a good reason to celebrate it with a feast. Also in Sosúa and then in Parada Típica El Choco with the Swiss couple Marco and Jacqueline we can celebrate ‘Metzgete’ or ‘Schlachtplatten Essen Fest’ in the coming weekend. There will be plenty of traditional Blut and Leberwurst, Haxen, Speck und Rippli with Sauerkraut and Kartoffeln are also served. The troubadour ‘Pain’e’ will provide a musical performance. But there is also another surprise: a live performance with a Plus!
Parada Típica El Choco restaurant is located on the motorway towards Cabarete (opposite the entrance to Sosúa Ocean Village).
