Medina says the economy shouldn’t force Dominicans to leave
SAN JUAN.- President Danilo Medina affirmed Wednesday a commitment to create the conditions so that no Dominican has to leave his country pressured by the economic situation.
“I have that commitment to our compatriots living in the United States, that whoever wants to leave Dominican Republic do so because they have higher expectations anywhere in the world, but not because it doesn’t give you the opportunity to live with dignity,” the president told local media upon arrival at Puerto Rico’s Capitol, where he attended the island nation’s new governor, Alejandro Garcia Padilla.
Garcia and first lady Wilma Pastrano received the Head of State for the ceremony held at the Plaza de la Libertad and the same also attended by U.S. government officials and representatives from nearby Caribbean islands.
Medina arrived in Puerto Rico at 9:12am yesterday via the Ribas Dominicci Airbase on a private flight from Dominican Republic, which took off from Higuero Airport at 8:27am.
