Medina inaugurates 33 km of San Pedro – La Romana highway

La Romana, Dominican Republic.-President Danilo Medina on Monday cut the ribbon on the San Pedro- La Romana highway, which is part of the Tourism Corridor of the East and will cut the driving time from La Romana to Santo Domingo to 50 minutes and 40 to Punta Cana.

In his inaugural speech at the village of Cumayasa, Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo said the road will also speed up transport between the East region and Santo Domingo, and bring communities closer to hospitals, universities and airports.

He said the 22-km road was built with the highest safety and quality standards with expanded shoulders, featuring curbs and a median in urban areas. “A better, safer and faster displacement for those who travel through this route will be a determining factor the people of San Pedro and La Romana provinces to see economic growth and the creation of more jobs.”

The Public Works Ministry didn’t reveal the cost of the work.
