Medina breaks ground on housing for people uprooted by Lago Enriquillo
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Thursday broke ground for a housing project for more than 3, 000 inhabitants of Boca de Cachon, Jimani (west), in the ??zone of Lago Enriquillo, whose rising waters had uprooted them several years ago.
Called the country’s first green village, 537 families at Boca de Cachon project will be provided with all the public services and infrastructure, affirmed Presidency Administrative minister José Ramón Peralta.
He said the Government aims to finish the village by March 30, 2014, adding that the lake’s flooding swamped thousands of hectares of farm and pasture lands. “That’s why president Danilo Medina chose Lago Enriquillo communities for his second surprise visit last October.”
