Lotoman 003 is first Pinewood studio film
Pinewood Indomina’s first production will be Lotoman 003, the third in a series of popular Dominican films produced by Archie Lopez. Lotoman 003 will be released in 2014.
As reported in El Dia, some 17 international films are lined up to be filmed at the new studios. Executives Antonio Gennari and Albert Martinez said that they are working to bring together independent companies to achieve competitiveness for the Dominican film industry. They added that the main business of the film studios that are located in Juan Dolio, 40 minutes from Santo Domingo, would be foreign films, but they are offering special conditions to attract local companies. They said they were working closely with DGCine, the Dominican government film department.
Archie Lopez said that one major advantage is that filming will not be delayed because it is raining. He said the studios have it all and offer many advantages to local producers. He expects the film industry to boom here. “Foreign producers will come to rent hotels, to rent sound, lights and will need many local actors, set designers and musicians. They will buy food here and much more to benefit Dominicans,” he said.
“I believe that within the next five to 10 years, the leading economic sector after tourism will be the movie industry.”
