Legislation proposes internship for lawyers
SD. The Chamber of Deputies was given a legislative proposal for a Law of Judicial Internship for the practice of law in the Dominican Republic. The proposal is an attempt to elevate the professional level of lawyers and guarantee access by citizens to advice, judicial defense and quality technical representation.
The proposal submitted by the Reformist Deputy Pedro Botello, suggest that the judicial internship be an indispensible and obligatory perquisite for the exercise of the profession of a lawyer.
If it is approved, it will establish that the professional degree of law and the corresponding exequatur will be indispensable to be able to enter a judicial internship and the acceptance of new professionals in the legal profession who intend to obtain their identification as lawyers.
The internships could be carried out in the Public Defender’s Office, or in the Office of the District Attorney of a Judicial District and before a Tribunal of First Instance in any area, for a period of three months.
The proposal is motivated by the fact that is an improvement in the practice of the legal profession is imminent, along with the professional training of the lawyer, with the aim of providing greater quality and prestige to the service offered by these professionals in correspondence with the social function that they represent.
