Lawmakers pass US$253.3M to finish eastern highways
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday approved a loan and two contracts totaling US$253.3 million, to finish several public works in the eastern region, at president Danilo Medina’s request.
A US$80.2 million loan from the Central American Economic Integration Bank (BCIE) will be used by the Public Works Ministry to finish the expansion of the highways that form the Eastern Corridor, in the San Pedro-La Romana span, the La Romana Beltway and Tourist Boulevard of the East.
In today’s session the lawmakers also approved a US$90.9 million contract to finish building the Tourist Boulevard of the East, at the Punta Cana Airport-Punta Cana span, by the consortium Odebrecht-Rizek.
The second contract, for US$82.2 million will conclude the expansion of the Eastern Motorway, from San Pedro to La Romana, whose contractor is the Brazilian company, Odebrecht.
