La Romana Bypass to be inaugurated Nov. 30th

The Dominican Ministry of Public Works announced through their website that the La Romana bypass, will be officially opened on November 30th, in a ceremony to be attended by President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina.

“Our goal is to deliver the highway to the Ministry of Public Works on November 30th, because that will better channel the large number of vehicles that are expected to flood the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic, because of the high tourist season, for the holidays”, said the Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo.

Once opened the La Romana Bypass will be 14 km long and 22 meters wide with four lanes divided by “New Jersey” concrete barriers, similar to those used on the road between Boca Chica and the entrance to the Las Americas International Airport.

When operational, the La Romana Bypass, will lead traffic around the La Romana city center and will join to the “Autopista del Coral Highway” which is between La Romana and Punta Cana. This is GREAT news for three reasons:

1. Traffic travelling between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, will no-longer need to enter La Romana – reducing traffic and congestion in the city center.

2. Travellers heading to Santo Domingo from Casa de Campo will turn right out of the Casa de Campo resort main entrance and will join the bypass within 5 minutes – something which will drastically reduce travel time to Santo Domingo. Hopes are that travel time to Santo Domingo from Casa de Campo will be reduced to just 1 hour.

3. Costasur has indicated that once the Bypass is open, work will begin on Casa de Campo’s “second main gate”. This second main gate will lead directly onto the Autopista del Coral highway. Click here to read more.

This road was built using a loan of 80.2 million dollars, granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE)  arranged through the Ministry of Finance for the purpose of financing the Program Improvement and Expansion Eastern Corridor.

“Tourist Boulevard of the East” – opening Nov. 20th

This is a project you may not have heard about, but which is also fantastic news for the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic.

The ”Tourist Boulevard of the East” is a coastal road which will join the Punta Cana – Bavaro area to Miches, a coastal town directly North of La Romana. The ”Tourist Boulevard of the East” will start in Uvero Alto, which is part of the Bavaro area, join with Macao and then continue along the northern coastline to Miches. This road will give visitors better access to two lakes “Laguna Redond” and “Laguna del Limon”, as well as the entire northern coastal area.

Dominican Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, was recently in the area conducting supervisions to the “Tourist Boulevard of the East”, and other works that make up this important tourism corridor, before it will be OPENED to traffic from this Wednesday the 20th of November.

The “Tourist Boulevard” will be between Miches and Macao along the North coast
