Industrialists want seaside boulevard truck traffic ban delayed
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Industries Association (AIRD) on Monday said it’s concerned with the National District’s interest in enforcing the ban on heavy vehicle traffic along the seaside boulevard Malecon, without responding to the business sector’s proposed changes to the regulation.
AIRD president Ligia Bonetti urged the municipal authorities to suspend the ban and suggested to wait for the completion of the beltway recently announced by President Danilo Medina. “The City Council’s proposal would create many difficulties and would be a temporary solution.”
“It makes no sense to push to enforce this policy with all the disadvantages it entails and that within a relatively short time we’ll again be compelled to rearrange freight traffic, depending on the construction of the beltway,” Bonetti said.
