Increased number of motoconchos caused by unemployment
We have seen an increase in the number of motoconchos (motorcycle taxis) in Sosúa the past few months. A reporter of Noticias ENN asked some motoconchos what has caused this. They said that the decline in the tourism sector is the cause that a lot of workers have lost their jobs. For example, Pablo Martínez and Juan José de la Cruz worded for more than ten years in the hotel industry. Now they are fired, they were forced to look for another source of income. Out of necessity they have now chosen to become motoconchos to make money to support their families. The problem is that there are now more motoconchos than tourists. The transport of school kids has also come to an end for the school holiday.
So the life of a motoconcho is therefore more difficult.
