Holiday from hell tourists who staged sit-in at Caribbean hotel to sue travel firm
Angry British tourists who staged a sit-in at their luxury Caribbean hotel are taking tour operator TUI to court.
Lawyers are to claim compensation against the owner of First Choice and Thomson after guests fell ill and had their five-star resort overrun by drunken locals on a cheap weekend deal.
About 160 staged the sit-in at Riu Resort in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic earlier this month, demanding to be moved to other hotels.
Suki Chhokar, a lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing the group, said: “We are concerned to hear reports of the health and safety concerns they raised about people urinating and defecating in the pool.”
Mr Chhokar said his firm had taken up cases relating to the resort several times since 2004.
Thomson Holidays said that “some customers expressed a disappointment with the levels of service” and it had moved them elsewhere.
