High fashion: Cocaine-stuffed bra, sneakers found in luggage at JFK
U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport arrested a woman who had just arrived from the Dominican Republic with cocaine hidden in a pair of sneakers and stuffed in a brazier, officials said.
On January 12, the CBP said, Luz Massiel Pérez Arlequín arrived on a flight from the Dominican Republic, and during an inspection of her luggage officers found a pair of sneakers with unusually thick soles. A search produced a white powder that tested positive for cocaine, the CBP said.
The officers also found a bra in the luggage that was also unusually thick, the CBP said. A search turned up two pounds of a white powder that tested positive for cocaine.
Officials said Arlequín was turned over to agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations branch, and faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.
