Germans begin building solar park in Monte Plata
Santo Domingo.- Germany’s Wirsol Solar AG announced it has begun construction on the largest solar park in the Caribbean, a 64.14-megawatt facility that will cater to the growing demand for electricity in the Dominican Republic.
The company said it is aiming to complete the first 32.1-MW phase of the Monte Plata project by the end of the year. It is the second-largest solar photo voltaic plant under construction in Latin America.
The Dominican Republic aims to get 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2025, and to reduce its carbon emissions by 25 percent from 2012 levels by 2030.
